The met brief was very positive this morning with 5kt climbs to 5000ft on the cross section. This did not happen. The sniffer has been nominated for Mr Rude for calling 4kt average climbs in the start sector! The weather decided, yet again, to not follow anything which had been forecast. The light showers which were expected around 1500 ended up reaching us around 1730 and had developed into a massive cell which duly did its banging and flashing around the airfield.
In the task area, most pilots were stymied by a combination of the strong wind at flying height and the showers which were developing on track. The early landouts were all well to the south of track as the pilots tried to avoid the band of showeres which was moving along the middle of the country. Later in the day, those brave enough to take a relight were just trying for distance. R4 had made it a scoring day by reaching TP2 and so any distance meant points! This led to starts after 1730 into a sky which still had lots of remains of thunderstorm activity. RC and F1 ran the edge of one cell all the way in to the first TP but RCs big wings meant that they could get round the TP and into Hus Bos whereas F1 had to just head for Hus Bos. Disappointingly, there are no photos as the P2 in RC forgot his camera.
High scoring day today with the winner taking home a massive 51 points!
